How My Blog Started
I am still early on in my blogging career. April is my second month as a book blogger and I am enjoying the experience and the community. Since July of 2020, I’ve been unemployed, and my brain does not handle unemployment too well. After a long reading slump, I picked up reading again in December 2020. As a person with an excruciatingly active brain, I needed somewhere to put my thoughts on what I’ve read. That is why I started this blog. The focus on the blog helps to keep my brain occupied, and the wonderful book blogging community is just a great big bonus.
Not only am I having fun reading books and writing blog posts, but I get to work with art and design regarding my WordPress site. The headers for example are ones I have designed myself – I’ll probably never stop working on them!
My Advice to New Bloggers
Here are a few advice for you new book bloggers ;P
- Don’t be afraid to jump into social media. Use social media to find like-minded people. I’ve been so lucky that I relatively quickly got into a wonderful group of people with experience within the book blogging community. These new friends will not only help you with practical stuff such as getting into ARC reviews, Book Tours, and even introducing you to Book Tags, but they are also a wonderful support system. Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for help.
- I cannot remember who gave me this advice, but I know it is one in my immediate blog group. It’s someone who has weekends where they read shorter books. If it’s you or you know who that is, please comment – and I am sorry for forgetting your name (Your name is on the tip of my tongue!). The advice I want to give is, throw in some shorter books in between the big reads. It both gives you a sense of accomplishment having read extra books, but it might also help you out of a reading slump or prevent you from getting into one!
- Bonus advice: It is okay to DNF a book. Reading is supposed to be fun, and forcing yourself to read a book you aren’t enjoying is not fun.
I nominate
There are a lot of wonderful bloggers out there and they all deserve love! I’ve picked out five, since I cannot possible tag them all xD
- Fi at Fi’s Bibliofiles
- Sammie at The Bookwyrm’s Den
- Emily at A Short Book Lover
- Ellie at Read to Ramble
- Asha – A Cat, A Book, and A Cup of Tea
Thank you again to Kimberly for the recognition 🙂

The sleepiest of bois. Very cozy.
I love your answers and there’s some seriously good advice here. I am terrible when it comes to dnf’ing books. I just hate to do it!

I know! I always feel guilty when I dnf a book, but putting myself through that guilt trip just isn’t worth it. Reading should be fun and enjoyable 🥰

Great post!! Your nomination is definitely deserved. You have come a long way in a short time. I love your advice about the shorter books. That’s why I also take on children’s books because they are a great instant gratification read and most of them are absolutely adorable!!

Thank you! I’m still trying to get used to reading shorter books. I feel like I’ve been conditioned to both read longer books and not being allowed to dnf a book. I’m still working on getting myself used to that not being true ☺️

Wonderful post, Aviaja! It’s been lovely to get to know you and read your blog posts, and your tips are really good 🥰 I’m literally the worst at DNF’ing books though lol. I also love your cat pictures 😍

Thank you! I’m trying to get used to dnf’ing as well – it’s difficult to do without feeling guilty 😅
I love my cat pictures as well, which is why I love sharing them xD

Ahh, thank you! ❤ I can't believe you've only been here a couple of months! For the shorter books, was it my Sweep Up Your Smols? It's only new so possibly not, but either way you should definitely join in with the next round!

It’s hardly been a couple of months! But I’ve been lucky connecting with wonderful people over on Twitter who have been of great help to me 🙂
Plus, following wonderful bloggers – such as yourself – helps as well ;P
I think it actually might be from your blog! I remember you mentioned spending a weekend reading long books, but that you just introduced the opposite where you read as many short books as possible in a weekend! I wanna join! Are they specific books or just from our TBR? ^^

Twitter is such a great resource (but also such a time sink, lol!) And yay! It’s anything at all from your TBR! Conquer A Chonker is any book over 400 pages, and Sweep Up Your Smols is any book under 300 pages – I can never stick to readathons with prompts or themed books as I’m such a mood reader so I keep it simple, haha. The next set of them will be in June (I can’t believe it’s halfway through April already!)

I’m also such a mood reader! I do my best to keep up with my tbr’s but sometimes I just can’t ^^;
So I’ll just keep my eyes on your blog for the next Sweep Up Your Smols and Conquer A Chonker? Btw, I love the names xD

I read Middle Grade books (as my version of short books) in between heavier reads!

I just finished The Mystery of Black Hollow Lane (which I think is a middle grade book?) it was so nice to enjoy a short book with a magical trio feel to it! It felt like I was reading Harry Potter, but with secret societies, mysteries and no magic. The read was still magical!

I’ve never really known much about them until I joined the TWR gang, which was why I gave this book a shoot. I really enjoyed it so I’ll be looking into more for my read when I can feel a slump on the way x)
